Handicraft at its finest
SHOOWA was founded with the aim of promoting the sustainability of ancient Congolese craftsmanship. The tribes produce the fabrics according to the standards of the western world: conscientiously, slowly, ethically. The finished high-quality goods are the opposite of a mass product: unique.
Masters such as Matisse, Picasso, Klee, Penck and Chellida were inspired by Cuban design. Matisse can be seen in a surviving photograph in his bedroom, surrounded by Kuba textiles, which shows how much Kuba design influenced him. He is said to have observed them and "waited for something to occur to me from this instinctive geometry".
My journey with connecting to my Congolese heritage inspired me to create products that are unique, authentic and rare. SHOOWA is dedicated to changing Congo´s narrative through high-quality products that are each an artistic masterpiece made purely by hand and mother nature. I hope these pieces bring you joy, become your favorite accessory, and freshen up your room.
